Facebook Messenger to get apps?

Facebook Messenger is said to get a major overhaul at the social network’s F8 developer conference, next week. This is no normal upgrade, though. It seems Facebook is turning Messenger into a platform of sorts.

Anonymous sources say Facebook is opening the doors for third-party developers to make apps for Messenger. We don’t know how they will look, work or be implemented. Nor do we know who the initial partners are, but this seems like it will be a major project.

Opinion: I just hope Facebook does this right. They make a lot of messy decisions when implementing new features.
