Android M may feature native fingerprint authentication

We’ve been seeing more and more Android device manufacturers include fingerprint scanners in their smartphones as of late. Samsung’s most recent Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have them, as well as a few lesser-known handsets like the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 or HTC’s One max. But since Google hasn’t introduced a standard for fingerprint recognition technology into Android quite yet, all of the current scanners found in Android devices today were built by OEMs. But according to a few reports around the web, Google may end up introducing native fingerprint authentication in its next version of Android.

According to both Buzzfeed and Ars Technica, a standard for fingerprint recognition tech could be introduced in Android M, which will be announced at Google I/O 2015. In fact, we’d be very surprised if it wasn’t announced sometime soon, seeing as how hints of a fingerprint recognition API have been previously found in AOSP. Additionally, ex-CEO of Motorola Dennis Woodside admitted that the little dimple found on the back of the Nexus 6 was supposed to feature a fingerprint scanner, but Motorola ultimately decided to pass because Apple bought the good fingerprint scanning company.



When talking of all ecosystems, the fingerprint scanners found in the iPhone 5S, 6 and 6 Plus have been the ones to beat. Samsung has caught up with Apple’s efforts with this year’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, but not many other manufacturers have been able to keep up in terms of reliability. So, if Google ends up announcing the new fingerprint authentication standard in Android M at Google I/O, not only will we start seeing these technologies come to Nexus devices, we’ll begin to see more OEMs adopt these security features as well.

Huawei Reveals Lite OS; An Operating System Designed for Internet of Things Devices

Yesterday Huawei decided to reveal another product, this time a software one. We’re talking about the Lite OS, an operating system special designed for those devices that are included in the Internet of things range. In the future we’ll see Lite OS on devices like cars, smarwatches and even electric toothbrushes.

William XU, Huawei’s Marketing Chief said that by 2025 is expected that the number of Internet of things devices to pass the 100 billion range. As you might know, these devices are characterized by the fact that they are using an Internet connection in order to connect with each other and to share information.

According to William Xu, even the electric toothbrush could become in the future a device that will offer records of how often and how effectively we’re brushing our teeth, and how we can do this action work better for our health, just like a smart band does while monitoring our sleep.

From what we found out, Lite OS is just 10 Kb in size. In the same time, Huawei said that Lite OS isn’t an attempt to take on Android or iOS, but a way to offer a solution for powering a high range of devices. What do you think about this Huawei product?

There are quite a few people out there who are using laptops that have 4 GB Of RAM or less, so when they hear the ASUS ZenFone 2 has 4 GB of RAM they’re probably baffled. Well, the phone debuted in USA this week and it reached us for a detailed unboxing below.

Priced at $300 in the 4 GB RAM version, off contract or $200 for the 2 GB RAM model, this device certainly is a novelty from ASUS. Oppo launched the R7 and R7 Plus smartphones today, but they also debuted the Color OS 2.1 platform, that has already been available as a beta on the Find 7 and Find 7a models. Now it gets an official release and as you probably know, it’s based on Lollipop.

It brings a flatter and brighter UI, redesigned system apps and custom icons for about 200 popular applications. Oppo has made the UI more responsive and after and now the boot time has been reduced from 31 to 10 seconds, thanks to the update. Faster app launches are available, including those of third party applications. The Chinese company has made the software light, removing all the unnecessary features that use up RAM.

They increased stability and you can find Power Saving features included in the experience now. New emojis and ringtones are also here, as well as some new music player elements. Anyways, it seems AT&T is making some major changes to their business strategy starting June 1st. While they won’t be getting rid of contracts (as previously rumored), internal sources say AT&T will make it a bit harder for users to get on a contract.

Opinion: This phone is amazing. I fell in love with it since I saw it at MWC, last year. It’s such a unique device, and that second screen really changes the way you can use your phone. I would definitely get it if I wasn’t so eager to move to Project Fi.
