Nintendo has always been an admirably and infuriatingly stubborn company, as anyone who’s read the excellent Console Wars can attest.
But now the Japanese firm has announced it will finally make its way into smartphone gaming via a partnership with Japanese game developer DeNA.
This partnership will produce “new gaming applications featuring Nintendo IP…specifically for smart devices.”
Showing their true colours, however, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata followed up the announcement with “if you report that we will release Mario on smart devices, it would be a completely misleading statement.”
So it’s business as usual in Nintendo – some divisions are pulling one way while others tug just as strongly in the other direction.
We’re looking forward to seeing what comes of this development.
