AT&T acquires Nextel Mexico
It seems AT&T hasn’t had enough Mexican wireless carrier action after purchasing Iusacell. USA’s second biggest carrier has gone ahead and purchased a whole other carrier!
The deal is to go through for $1.875 billion and it includes spectrum licenses, network assets, retail stores and subscribers. We had heard about this deal before, but the deal has been finalized this week.
Opinion: AT&T is taking its investments in Mexico quite seriously it seems. This is good, as Mexico currently lives under a mobile monopoly. Now we have to see how AT&T will handle things on the other side of the border. Will they push competition the right way, or simply rip the population off like Telcel has been doing for generations?
